Historic Barges in Berlin – Nov 2010

The Berlin-Brandenberg e.V. Shipping Company is a club of boating enthusiasts, whose objective is the maintenance of an old port and the restoration, preservation and operation of historic barges, so people can understand the working and living conditions of boatmen in the past.

The website of the Berlin Club has information on the vessels they have acquired, some of which can be seen in detail here historic boats tugs and barges.
The photos of their rallies through the heart of the city, give an indication of what several heritage boats making their way up a dredged Liffey past some of Dublin’s historical buildings, would look like, see Club Logbook
On their 100 year old barge Renate Angelike, 46m by 6.6m, they have created a space for exhibitions on waterways, the port and barge themes.
Thanks to John Duffy for the referral. He thoroughly enjoyed his visit to the port recently.
