“This is a really rare picture of the Canal at Lock Quay in Limerick. The boat, c 1955 is the 70M Canal Boat and the skipper is Willie Pender from Kildare; the engine man is his brother Vincent. The deck hand is Tom McCormack also from Kildare. Mr Hugh McMahon is the lockkeeper standing on the quay. Also in the picture is the Board of Works office and the Sand Cots Office”. © Sean Curtin from his book Limerick, A Stroll Down Memory Lane Vol 5.
